Altman-Backed Cerebras Systems Secures Multi-Billion Dollar Deal with OpenAI
OpenAI has inked a landmark agreement with Cerebras Systems, an AI chip startup reportedly backed by Sam Altman, to purchase up to 750 megawatts of computing power over the next three years. The partnership aims to accelerate AI inference speeds by leveraging Cerebras' purpose-built hardware, which combines massive compute, memory, and bandwidth on a single chip to eliminate bottlenecks.
The integration of Cerebras' technology into OpenAI's infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce latency across its AI products. "Cerebras adds a dedicated low-latency inference solution to our platform," said Sachin Katti of OpenAI, highlighting the potential for faster response times in code generation, image creation, and AI agent interactions.
This strategic MOVE underscores the growing demand for specialized hardware in the AI sector, as companies race to optimize performance and user experience. The phased rollout will see OpenAI gradually incorporate Cerebras' capabilities across its workload spectrum.
